Both Introduction to Syringe Driver and Troubleshooting Syringe Driver training are offered throughout the academic year at St Peter’s Hospice.


We can also provide Introduction to Syringe Driver training within your organisation, for up to 12 attendees.  For further information on bespoke training, please contact a member of the education team at the Hospice Tel: 0117 9159465

Introduction to Syringe Drivers

A half-day session to enable practitioners to develop their knowledge of the principles and safe practices of Graseby MS16A and MS26 syringe drivers in palliative care.

Objectives:

  • To be able to recall the four main indications why a syringe driver would be used in end of life care
  • To be able to identify common safe sites to deliver the medication via a syringe driver and discuss any factors that may impact on the safe and comfortable delivery of this infusion
  • To recall commonly used medications that are delivered via a syringe driver to control symptoms
  • To be able to demonstrate how you would convert medication from the oral to the subcutaneous route

Course Dates:

All sessions take place between 12.30pm - 4.00pm on the following dates

Monday 18th June 2012

Tuesday 25th September 2012

Monday 3rd December 2012

Wednesday 13th March 2013

Monday 10th June 2013

Course costs: 

Each session costs £50 per person

 

Troubleshooting Syringe Drivers

A half-day session to enable practitioners who are experienced in the use of syringe drivers to develop their knowledge in the use of these devices in relation to complex cases

Objectives:

  • To be able to recall the basic principles and procedures involved when using a MS16A and MS26 Graseby syringe driver
  • To be able to recognise pharmacological issues to drug combinations, compatibility and interactions and identify resources to support decision making when these issues arise
  • To be able to demonstrate how you would convert medication from oral and transdermal to the subcutaneous route in complex symptom management
  • To have an awareness of troubleshooting issues when using a Graseby syringe driver

Course Dates:

All sessions take place between 12.30pm - 4.00pm on the following dates

Tuesday 14th May 2013
